The Village of Rantoul is looking to hire an Apprentice Electrical Systems Technicians. The Apprentice Electrical Systems Tech is someone who will work under the supervision of an Electrical Systems Tech by learning and practicing the specific job skills over a four year training program.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a valid State of Illinois CDL
- Follow appropriate techniques; policies; procedures and equipment operation
- Test meters and adjust them to a close degree of accuracy
- Maintain and submit all requisite records; logs; and files
- Remain current on changes in materials; procedures; and technology pertinent to the electric trade
- Read; interpret and work from drawings; sketches; plans; and blueprints
- Skillfully operate the tools and equipment used in electrical testing and repairs
- Work safely; using tools and equipment with proper caution
- Ability to plan and design electrical wiring projects
- Install; maintain; and repair the electrical components of the distribution system; including the SCADA system; protective relaying; fiber optics communication; traffic and crossing signals; ESDA warning sirens; power generating systems; and meters
- Ability to be on a rotating on-call list on the weekends Friday through Monday
- Ability to be on a rotating on-call list during the week Monday through Thursday
- Respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day and on weekends
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate effectively both verbal and in writing
- Ability to work independently and/or as a team
- Work during inclement weather conditions and perform manual labor
- Establish and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with co-workers and the general public
- Must have at least a high school diploma or GED
- Knowledge of street locations and geography of the Village of Rantoul
- Working knowledge of commercial arithmetic
- Extensive knowledge of tools; methods; procedures; and materials used in the electric trade
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Full compliance with the requirements of the Village of Rantoul/IBEW Local 51 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program.
- The Apprentice is to comply with the certification of professional development coursework outlined in the program.
- Installs; troubleshoots; repairs; and maintains the SCADA system; protective relays; traffic and crossing signals; power generating systems; utility meters; remote readers; AC/DC substation supplies and electrical components; ESDA warning sirens and Village communication and electrical systems.
- Participates in the operation; control and generation of the Village’s electric generating plant and power modules.
- Participates in the periodic reading or residential and commercial utility meters; performs; other meter readings as related to moving requests; reading mistakes; and pickups; reviews; and participates in the completion of work orders concerning meter disconnects and hookups.
- Investigates consumer complaints of high bills of faulty meter operations; checks for miss-readings; leakages; or malfunctioning of meters; discusses solutions with customer and makes corrections if possible.
- Performs grounds maintenance activities at the Electric plant; garage; and substations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
