American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position requiring Level II Trauma experience, critical care skills, and current TNCC certification.

Work in a 71-bed Emergency Department that operates at a very high acuity Level II, functioning at a Level I capacity
-
Patient population includes multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
-
Patient ratios: 1:4 (ER), 1:5 (MS holds), 1:3 (ICU holds)

Skills utilized include trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, arterial line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, Foley, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/high-flow oxygen, and continuous bladder irrigation

EMR: Cerner (Epic experience also accepted); Cerner or Epic preferred for experienced travelers

IV pumps: Plum 360; Medication dispensing: Omnicell; Patient monitors: Spacelabs

Shift options: 7a–7p, 7p–7a, 11a–11p, or 3p–3a; 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week

Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule

No on-call or floating requirements

4-week scheduling cycle

Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy (until 3:00 AM), IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage

Active AL or Compact RN license required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and Secure/CPI (nationally recognized/JCAHO accepted)

First-time travelers must have at least 2 years of ER experience, Cerner or Epic experience, and Level II Trauma or higher experience

Experienced travelers must have at least 2 years of critical care experience (ICU, ER, or MS hold) with the most recent year in a Level II ER
-
Proficiency with critical care skills including vent management, ICU drips, chest tubes, arterial lines, and central lines
-
Must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible

Provide emergency nursing care to a diverse, high-acuity patient population including trauma, cardiac, neurological, and psychiatric cases

Orientation for new-to-facility travelers includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours of on-unit training; orientation for returning travelers who have been away for 1+ years follows the same structure

Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific holiday assignments are not guaranteed in advance

The facility observes annual blackout dates during which time-off requests will not be approved; 2026 blackout dates include Martin Luther King Jr. Day (1/19–20), Valentine's Day week (2/13–16), the entire month of March, Easter weekend (4/18–20), Mother's Day weekend (5/10–12), Memorial Day week (5/24–26), Father's Day weekend (6/14–16), Fourth of July (7/3–6), Labor Day weekend (8/30–9/1), Halloween (10/30–11/2), Thanksgiving (11/26–30), and Christmas/New Year's (12/21–1/1)
