General Statement of Duties
Performs responsible administrative work entering data and processing information from state and federal computer systems.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Civilian position assigned to the Evidence Division. This position is responsible for providing support functions for law enforcement activities and staff, including investigatory assistance, digital evidence processing and retention, crime analysis, and forensic science. Performs a broad range of work processing digital evidence and may assist in training staff in digital forensics. Responsible for assisting Crime Scene Investigators on scenes involving digital forensics, maintaining the digital forensics lab equipment and tools, preparing reports and expert testimony. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Sheriff Lieutenant.
Duties, Qualifications, and Expectations

Willing and able to attend vendor specific training and successfully obtaining certifications

Some training may require overnight stays in other states, and may last as long as (2) weeks

This position is subject to work after normal schedule hours, to include weekends; depending on the needs of the Sheriff’s Office with call-ins

May be required from time-to-time to respond to Crime Scenes and assist with the collection and/or triage of digital evidence

Will be exposed to material and content related to all types of investigations, including Fraud, Homicides, Overdoses, Death Investigations, Child Exploitation, Child Physical and Sexual Abuse, Breaking and Entering, Drug, and many more

Trustworthy to work investigations without releasing or speaking about the information learned

Work with other DFS in the digital forensics lab to learn best practices as it relates to digital devices and evidence

Willingness to work with Deputies, Detectives, Prosecutors and Defense Attorneys not only within Davidson County, but externally as well

Ability to testify in court and be tendered as a subject matter expert

High organizational skills with attention to detail as it relates to documentation

Understanding of being exposed to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on a routine basis

Must be willing to wear an issued uniform daily when working

Must be able to perform basic data entry as assigned and be able to type at a minimum of 25 words per minute

Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Platforms

Thorough knowledge of and ability to accurately enter crime statistics in the computer.

Ability to accurately retrieve data from and enter data into computer systems.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, NC State Bureau of Investigation, NC Division of Criminal Information, National Crime Information Center and law enforcement officials.

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.

Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Must possess visual acuity necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal and perform extensive reading.

Worker is required to have visual acuity necessary to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.

Worker is subject to inside environmental conditions.

Worker may be in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of his/her duties.
Education and Experience

Graduation from high school and considerable administrative office experience, including the operation of computers; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Davidson County Sheriff’s Office will pay for your specialized training for this position and provide a salary while you are being trained. In exchange, you will be required to sign a contract requiring employment to work for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office for a minimum period of three years. If you leave early from this position, you will be required to reimburse the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office for your training and equipment costs.
