St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center
I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
Position Title: Associate Teacher/Float
Location: All Buildings
Status: Full Time or Part Time
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Curriculum Coach, Director of Preschool & PD, Director of Programs
Supervises: Children Ages 3-5
II. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Associate Teacher demonstrates our Image of the Child through respectful interactions with children and their families. These positions participate in planning and maintaining a rich, child-focused, developmentally appropriate environment for the children in his/her care.
III. POSITION CONTENT
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrate respect for children and families of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
2. Maintain the safety and well-being of all children as the highest priority.
3. Ensure food is never withheld as a form of punishment.
4. Communicate and collaborate with families in a positive and consistent manner.
5. Support classroom instruction by leading class and small-group learning activities in collaboration with the classroom lead teacher.
6. Implement the Image of the Child philosophy, positive behavior management practices, and Applied Educational Neuroscience techniques.
7. Collaborate with team members to support classroom operations and program goals.
8. Provide individualized and small-group support to children to reinforce learning and development.
9. Support daily classroom operations, including meal and snack service, completion of meal documentation, and end-of-day classroom cleaning.
10. Maintain compliance with all licensing, accreditation, and CACFP requirements.
11. Complete required professional development in accordance with NAEYC standards, state licensing requirements, and St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center expectations.
12. Review child files to maintain awareness of allergies, health concerns, and photo permission status.
13. Maintain flexibility to support multiple classrooms and/or buildings as operational needs require.
14. Maintain organized, clean classroom environments at the end of each shift or day.
15. Maintain required licensing ratios at all times.
16. Maintain continuous visual supervision of all children in care, ensuring visibility of the children at all times.
17. Avoid the use of personal electronic devices, including cell phones, while supervising children except in emergency situations.
18. Other duties as necessary to ensure efficient functioning of the St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center

3. Ability to communicate positively and professionally with families.
4. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
5. Demonstrates reliability through punctuality and consistent attendance.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
7. Willingness to support and advance the mission of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
8. Understanding of and commitment to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct.
9. Acceptance of and alignment with the beliefs and mission of St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center.
b. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum age of 18
2. High school diploma or equivalent required, CDA preferred.
3. Ability to read, understand, and complete required documentation, reports, and materials necessary to fulfill responsibilities and ensure child safety.
4. Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
5. Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training
6. Background screening, physical, drug test and tb test required
V. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, frequent occasional bending, stooping, walking, standing, and lifting 35 pounds are required to lift or carry a child, classroom supplies, etc. and the ability to take precautions to protect children from a place or situation of danger. Nights might be required. Traveling between building sites as required.
