Job Title: Asphalt Distributor Operator
Reports To: Foreman
Position Summary
The Asphalt Distributor Operator is responsible for applying specialized asphalt emulsions to roadways, which are subsequently covered by a chip spreader. This position sets the pace for the paving operation and requires precision, safety awareness, and strong equipment operation skills.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate distributor truck to spray asphalt emulsions on road surfaces according to project specifications.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet required standards.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Drive and operate distributor truck equipped with tank, applying emulsions at the correct rate and width.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Connect hose from storage tank to truck tank and fill pressure tank with asphalt liquid.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Regulate burner to heat asphalt and start auxiliary pump.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Attach and adjust spray bars to achieve required spray width and height.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Monitor flow gauges, tachometer, and temperature gauges to ensure uniform application.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Perform daily safety checks, including oil, water, and fuel levels, and inspect for leaks or damage.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Maintain equipment in proper working order and promptly notify supervisor of needed repairs.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Understand and apply different types of asphalt emulsions.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Perform incidental work and assist with other tasks as needed.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Work varied shifts according to project demands.[Text Wrapping Break]
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, extreme heat or cold, humidity, dust, and asphalt exposure.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Noise levels are generally loud.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Must have excellent stamina and be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects, and perform physical tasks such as jumping, sprinting, or throwing.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Requires good manual dexterity, multi-limb coordination, and the ability to quickly move arms and legs.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Must be able to work long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends.[Text Wrapping Break]
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of CDL truck driving experience.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Valid Class A or B CDL with N-tanker and X-hazmat endorsements and a clean 10 year MVR.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Must be 21 years or older and able to verify identity and work authorization in the U.S.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Must be able to pass a drug screen.[Text Wrapping Break]
- Basic labor skills as needed.[Text Wrapping Break]
