POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Technician III, the Maintenance Technician I performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of seminary buildings and grounds to include work in the carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical trades.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures and piping

Snaking out clogged drains, toilets, sinks, etc.

Perform basic wiring repairs and installation to include installing/replacing switches, receptacles, plugs, circuit breakers, fuses, bulbs, ballasts, light fixtures, etc.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment to include lubricating, cleaning and servicing of motors, pumps, valves, belts, etc.

Change filters in all air handling and fan coil units

Perform various structural type repairs to include light carpentry work, repairing/installing doors and hardware, patching holes in drywall, painting, etc.

Drive to specified locations to pick up supplies, parts and/or equipment

Assist on equipment installation projects

Keep work area clean and safe

Keep work vehicle and all tools neat and in order

Various duties in the snow removal process to include but not be limited to plowing, shoveling, operating a snowblower, and spreading sand and ice melt

Move furniture and set up equipment for various functions at the seminary, if needed

Perform groundskeeping related duties, if needed

Perform other related duties as required
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies:
- Mechanical aptitude
-
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and follow directions
-
Ability to follow diagrams and manufacturers’ manuals and blueprints
-
Possession of a valid state motor vehicle operator license
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
- Minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent required.

Advanced course of study or certifications in carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or HVAC, desired
Experience:
- Previous experience in the maintenance field with a well-rounded background in all areas including structural/carpentry, electrical and mechanical
Administrative and Technological Skills:
- Basic computer skills (MS Office), preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used to perform required maintenance and repair tasks
- Lifting, Stooping, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and from ladders, scaffolds, and genie lift

Must be able to lift items weighing up to 75 pounds

Must be able to climb extension ladders, scaffold and operate lift equipment on a regular basis

Must be able to Lift, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb and work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time
-
Standing moving for 6-8 hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed solely onsite.
