Diesel Mechanic – Heavy Duty Vehicles & Equipment
Position Summary
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy‑duty trucks, off‑road equipment, and machinery used in construction, aggregates, concrete production, and industrial operations. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, safe operation, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on heavy‑duty diesel trucks, loaders, excavators, skid steers, haul trucks, mixers, and other mobile equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic tools and OEM software.
Complete engine overhauls, transmission repairs, brake system service, suspension work, and drivetrain repairs.
Inspect and repair fuel systems, cooling systems, DEF systems, and emissions components.
Conduct welding and fabrication repairs when needed.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all OSHA/MSHA safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and equipment inspection requirements.
Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
Shop & Field Service
Perform repairs both in the shop and in the field at job sites, plants, or quarries.
Respond to emergency breakdowns and support production teams with rapid troubleshooting.
Operate service trucks and maintain tools, equipment, and parts inventory.
Operational Support
Communicate repair status, timelines, and recommendations to supervisors, dispatch, and operations managers.
Assist with equipment evaluations, rebuild decisions, and lifecycle planning.
Support training of junior mechanics or technicians as needed.
Qualifications
3–5+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy‑duty drivetrains.
Experience with diagnostic software (e.g., Cummins Insite, CAT ET, Allison DOC).
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
CDL or ability to obtain one preferred.
Welding/fabrication experience a plus.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor, quarry, or plant environments.
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
