An area golf course is currently seeking an Equipment Mechanic. Previous golf-specific experience is preferred but not required, though previous experience as a mechanic is. This is a full-time, year-round position where we’re building a brand new maintenance facility, onboarding new equipment, and raising the standards of course conditioning.
The Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, servicing, and preparing the golf course’s fleet of turf maintenance equipment, vehicles, and small engines. This position plays a critical role in keeping equipment safe, reliable, properly adjusted, and ready for daily golf course maintenance operations.
Duties include:
- Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance on golf course equipment, vehicles, and small engines.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel-systems.
- Maintain and repair mowing equipment, including greens, tees, fairways, rough, and utility equipment.
- Perform reel maintenance, reel grinding, bedknife grinding, and cutting-unit setup and adjustment.
- Maintain proper reel-to-bedknife contact and cutting performance to ensure a high-quality cut.
- Sharpen and grind reels and bedknives to manufacturer specifications.
- Service and repair tractors, utility vehicles, loaders, mowers, aerifiers, sprayers, and other turf equipment.
- Perform oil changes, lubrication, belt replacement, filter replacement, fluid checks, and other scheduled maintenance.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and determine when repairs can be completed in-house or require outside service.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, parts, and service history.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe equipment maintenance shop.
- Monitor inventory of commonly used parts such as fluids, filters, belts, bearings, and other maintenance supplies.
- Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff to prioritize equipment repairs based on daily course needs.
- Assist with seasonal equipment preparation, spring startup, and winterization.
- Follow all equipment manufacturer recommendations and department safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.
Please note that while work is often preformed indoors in a maintenance shop there will also be the need to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and the position may require early morning, weekend, holiday, or occasional emergency work during peak golf season. Must be able to occasionally and safely lift 50 lbs, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, and parts.
