The Role
Under the direction of Engineering Manager , the Product Engineer is responsible to review and direct knife application, designs, drawings, and metallurgical conditioning that meet the requirements and specifications of ANDRITZ Metals USA for various applications. The design will be in accordance with ANDRITZ Metals USA engineering design and drafting standards and apply knowledge of the process line equipment and how the knife products are incorporated into the equipment. This position provides timely technical support for the Inside Sales and Order Fulfillment teams and reviews and confirms the technical details associated with orders including the review of applications and the specification of grades, hardness, and product tolerances. Additionally, Product Engineer will engage with sales, R&D, Quality, Engineering, and other areas of the organization in daily work. The Product Engineer will be responsible to solve mechanical design issues in both the office and the field and support the continuous improvement initiatives for the product.
Requirements
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items
Communicate with customers, sales agents, suppliers, Inside Sales / Customer Service Team, Engineering, and Manufacturing Team to resolve customer specification and contract discrepancies
Acquire and maintain expert ASKO product knowledge including application expertise; apply knowledge of products, specifications, and applications to determine correct material grades and hardness for proposals and orders
Perform detailed technical review and approval of new manufacturing drawings and specifications prior to releasing for production
Provide technical review and advice to all functional departments
Prepare and check design sketches, layouts, and detail drawings as part of a design team
Ability to perform GD&T process in new designs and interpret drawings of existing designs
Select complete specifications for knife products
Perform stress analysis (FEA), analyze data, prepare reports, and make comparisons with similar proven designs
Travel of up to 10% may be required
Technology
Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings using the AutoCAD and/or Solid Edge Software packages
Solid knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D Solid Modeling (Solid Edge preferred), and Microsoft office software

Incorporate knowledge of manufacturing processes into design considerations, specifically in component tolerances

Education and Experience
A B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.) preferred or equivalent engineering education
At least 5-7 yrs of directly related experience
Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communicational skills
Good mechanical, analytical, and technical skills
Ability to work as an individual contributor or team player
