JOB Supervises the activities of workers engaged in a variety of public works maintenance and construction activities. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Supervise laborers and skilled construction and maintenance workers on maintenance, repair, and construction of public works projects;
- Instruct the crew on the repair methods to be used and ensure that safe procedures are followed;
- Transport crew members, tools, and materials to job locations;
- Make time and material estimates;
- Assist the supervisor in planning work and make work assignments;
- Ensure that machines and equipment are available and in proper operating condition;
- Write daily reports and keep time cards;
- Perform related duties as directed.

Knowledge of:
- The materials, methods, and equipment used in public works maintenance; hazards and safety precautions at work.
Ability to:
- Plan, supervise, and assign work of a large number of employees;
- Determine the effectiveness of and need for public works maintenance;
- Make time and material estimates;
- Establish and maintain effective working and public relationships;
- Interpret plan specifications;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Possess certification if required by the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Occasionally stand and walk during the shift.
- Frequently bend and kneel during the shift.
- Frequently push and pull objects.
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
- Occasionally move body in a crawling motion.
- Rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing.
- Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
