About the Role:
The Concrete Sawing Operator is responsible for operating concrete sawing equipment on heavy civil construction projects, including airports, highways, bridges, sidewalks, curbs, and other concrete structures. This role performs sawing operations on newly placed and existing concrete, operates ride-on saws, maintains equipment, and ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate concrete sawing equipment to cut control joints, expansion joints, trenches, and other specified cuts in concrete surfaces.
- Perform sawing operations on newly placed concrete to create control joints that help manage concrete cracking as it cures.
- Safely operate ride-on saws and other concrete cutting equipment.
- Measure and mark cutting locations according to project specifications and plans.
- Inspect equipment before, during, and after use to ensure safe and effective operation.
- Clean saws and related equipment daily to maintain performance and extend equipment life.
- Replace blades and perform routine maintenance as needed.
- Monitor cutting quality and make adjustments to ensure cuts meet project requirements.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and job site requirements.
- Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, and safety concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with general construction activities as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in concrete cutting, concrete construction, heavy civil construction, or related field preferred.
- Experience operating ride-on saws and other concrete cutting equipment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction plans, markings, and specifications.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
- CDL preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding environments throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery for extended periods.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toed boots.
Work Environment
- Heavy civil construction projects, including highways, streets, airports, bridges, and other concrete infrastructure.
- Regular exposure to dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and changing weather conditions.
- Frequent interaction with construction crews, equipment operators, and project supervisors.
