American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a 32-bed unit at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center facility in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and regional floating availability.

32-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit (4W) within a 241-bed Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital

Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, wound care, and related diagnoses
-
RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with surge ratios potentially reaching 1:7–8
-
12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
-
Every other weekend rotation required
-
Low census call is possible; night shift travelers may be called back up to 3:00 AM
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — do not apply if unwilling to float

EMR: Epic (experience preferred)

Unit utilizes virtual nursing (VNO) with 10 cameras; virtual RNs assist with second-witness for certain medications, patient monitoring, and admission/discharge tasks
-
Unit support includes CNAs, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), charge nurse, and telemetry monitoring technician

Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the past year
-
Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation and management of non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
-
Skills required include wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
-
Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible

2-day departmental orientation provided in addition to facility NEO

Scheduling runs on a 6-week cycle

Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time off that impacts contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
