The Group Fitness Instructor supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Responsible for instructing fitness techniques in a safe, effective and well-balanced manner.
Follow abuse prevention policies.
Complete required safety training.
Maintain appropriate boundaries.
Comply with mandated reporting requirements.
The role of the Group Fitness Instructor is to motivate participants and provide a fitness environment in which members and guests feel comfortable, and develop their spirit, mind and body through their involvement with YMCA fitness programs.
Provide instruction to participants that will lead to member retention and involvement.
Provide daily instruction in a safe, effective manner in a class setting.
Develop classes that are current in the industry and in demand in our community.
Assist members and answer questions regarding fitness and our programs.
Coordinate routines with music that is of high quality and appropriate for the class and its participants.
Take daily attendance at the beginning of each class from current roster for all classes and notify supervisor of any discrepancy.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be 18 years or older and a high school graduate or equivalent.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
1 year of fitness instruction experience preferred.
Knowledge of aerobic techniques, exercise mechanics, and group fitness instruction.
Strong communication, customer service, and member relations skills.
Professional appearance and positive attitude representing the YMCA.
Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Must pass background check in accordance with state requirements.
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive team environment.
