Position Summary
The Part-Time Marine Services Assistant supports sail repair, canvas work, rigging projects, marine electronics installations, and general shop operations. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and wants to develop practical skills in the marine industry.
The position begins with a 90-day introductory period during which both the employee and PSM Seattle can evaluate whether the position is a good long-term fit.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, and learning new skills in a unique and rewarding industry. If you're mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and eager to learn, we'll provide training and hands-on experience across a variety of marine service projects.
Primary Responsibilities
Working alongside experienced team members, you will assist with:
- Sail inspections and repair projects
- Industrial sewing and sail construction techniques
- Canvas fabrication and repairs
- Additional projects may induce rigging installation and maintenance, marine electronics, boat optimization etc.
- Preparing materials, tools, and workspaces for projects
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Loading, unloading, and organizing customer sails and equipment
- Providing friendly and professional customer service when needed
As your skills develop, you'll take on increasing responsibility and more independent project work.

Experience with sewing, woodworking, fabrication, mechanics, electrical systems, bicycles, automotive repair, construction, or other hands-on trades is a plus but not required.
An interest in sailing, boating, or the marine industry is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
Applicants should be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand for extended periods
- Work on the loft floor and around boats, docks, and marine equipment
- Safely use shop tools and equipment after training
- Occasionally work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Schedule
- Approximately 10–20 hours per week based on workload with the potential for additional hours as the business grows
- Additional hours may be available during peak seasons
- No guarantee of minimum weekly hours

This position is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt employee position. Employment with PSM Seattle is at will, meaning either the employee or the company may end the employment relationship at any time, with or without notice, subject to applicable law.
