Job Summary
Northeast Regional Medical Center is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Inpatient Services (ICU and MedSurg). In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the overall management, clinical operations, and strategic direction of our Medical-Surgical and Intensive Care units.
The ideal candidate will foster a culture of cross-functional collaboration, champion continuous quality improvement, drive patient satisfaction, and mentor a high-performing nursing team. You will ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and high-quality patient care while maintaining operational and financial excellence.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Clinical Operations & Quality Assurance
- Oversee Care Delivery: Manage daily clinical operations within the MedSurg and ICU departments, ensuring all patient care aligns with evidence-based practices and regulatory standards.
- Quality Metrics & Outcomes: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and clinical metrics; design and lead quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient outcomes.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with healthcare regulatory bodies and lead the accreditation and audit processes (e.g., Joint Commission) to exceed industry standards.
- Patient Advocacy: Respond promptly to patient care concerns, complaints, or incidents; conduct thorough investigations and implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Dual-Role Adaptability: Serve in a direct staff nursing role when critically required, maintaining all established clinical competencies.
Leadership & Personnel Management
- Staff Development: Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities for nursing and departmental staff.
- Performance Management: Conduct routine performance evaluations, establish actionable goals, and provide constructive feedback to foster a culture of accountability.
- Resource Allocation: Manage employee scheduling to optimize resource utilization; consult with executive leadership to proactively address potential staffing challenges.
Strategic Planning & Financial Stewardship
- Budget Management: Oversee departmental budgets, resource allocation, and expenditures to ensure cost-effective service delivery without compromising patient care.
- Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with hospital leadership to define the department's long-term vision, protocols, and policies.
- Technology Integration: Evaluate and implement emerging healthcare technologies to drive operational efficiency and modernization.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Maintain seamless communication with physicians, multidisciplinary clinical teams, administration, and external stakeholders to bridge operational gaps.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field OR seven (7) plus years of direct clinical/nursing experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
- Master's Degree: Strongly preferred.
- Clinical Experience: 3–5 years of experience in a closely related acute care/inpatient field (required for Bachelor's degree holders).
- Leadership Experience: 3–5 years of previous healthcare leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN): Valid State of Missouri Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required.
- BLS: Basic Life Support certification required.
