Boat Tour Guide / Pirate – Fall Season
The Back & Forth – Belfast, Maine
Seasonal | Late August – October 15 | Approximately 4–5 days per week (mixed hours)
The Back & Forth is looking for one great person to join our crew for the remainder of our 2026 season.
We’re a small, experience-led boat company in Belfast, Maine, operating classic wooden lobster boats with a maximum of just six guests at a time.
This is not a traditional scripted tour-guide job.
We’re looking for someone warm, confident, adaptable and naturally good with people — someone who can read a group, make guests feel welcome, tell a story without sounding rehearsed and help create the kind of experience people remember after their vacation is over.
The Role
You’ll primarily work aboard The Back & Forth, helping host a range of small-group experiences including:
Day cruises and lobster-roll trips
Sunset cruises
Family Treasure Hunter trips
Morning cruises
Private trips
Some days you’ll be a relaxed host and guide.
On our Family Treasure Hunter trips, you’ll become a pirate, leading children and families through an energetic, interactive treasure hunt.
You need to be comfortable doing both.
What You’ll Do
Welcome and look after guests
Help prepare the boat before trips
Host and guide experiences naturally
Work closely with the captain
Help serve drinks, food and trip-specific items
Take guest photos/videos when appropriate
Lead our pirate/treasure-hunt experience
Help reset and tidy the boat between trips
Adapt quickly when weather, schedules or guests change
Who We’re Looking For
More than anything, we’re looking for personality, awareness and reliability.
You’ll probably be a good fit if you:
genuinely enjoy meeting people
are confident speaking with small groups
are great with children
can be playful without feeling forced
notice what needs doing without always being asked
stay calm when plans change
are comfortable working outdoors and around boats
take pride in giving people a genuinely great experience
can reliably work through October 15
Previous hospitality, tourism, teaching, performance, childcare or customer-service experience would all translate well.
Boating experience is useful, but not essential.
Schedule
We’re primarily looking for someone who can cover around 4–5 days per week, including some weekends.
Trip times vary throughout the day and into the evening depending on bookings and sunset.
There is some flexibility in the schedule, and we have a small crew who work together to cover real-life conflicts when they arise.
About Us
The Back & Forth is entering its ninth season in Belfast.
We deliberately keep our trips small — maximum six guests — because we want them to feel personal, relaxed and authentic rather than like a conventional commercial boat tour.
Professional, but never stiff.
Relaxed, but always switched on.
Personal, never scripted.
If that sounds like your kind of way to work, we’d love to hear from you.
Please apply with a short note telling us a little about yourself, your availability through October 15, and why you think you’d be good at this particular kind of job.
