Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Fiberglass Technician with a minimum of five years of professional experience to join our specialized production team. In this role, you will not be working on a standard, fast-moving assembly line. Instead, you will focus on low-volume, high-performance vehicles where precision, artistry, and a Built-In Quality (BIQ) mindset are paramount.
The ideal candidate possesses deep mechanical empathy and takes pride in a "mile-deep," flawless finish. You will be responsible for fabricating, prepping, repairing, and perfecting high-end composite and fiberglass components to ensure they meet our strict aesthetic and structural standards before hitting the paint booth.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication & Repair: Fabricate, modify, and repair specialized fiberglass and composite vehicle components (e.g., body kits, hoods, spoilers) using hand lay-up, spray-up, or vacuum bagging techniques.
- Surface Preparation: Grind, sand, block, and fill surface imperfections to achieve perfect body lines and gaps, ensuring panels are absolutely straight and ready for premium, multi-stage paint finishes.
- Quality Control (BIQ): Inspect your own work and incoming components with an uncompromising eye for detail. Identify and correct structural or cosmetic defects (such as pinholes, waviness, or delamination) at the source rather than passing them down the line.
- Tooling & Mold Maintenance: Maintain, clean, and prep production molds and plugs to guarantee consistent part replication and longevity.
- Collaboration: Work closely with our assembly, body, and paint teams to ensure seamless fitment, tight tolerances, and cohesive production flow.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in fiberglass fabrication and repair, ideally within the high-end automotive, aerospace, or marine industries.
- Technical Skill: Mastery of fiberglass materials, resins, gel coats, body fillers, and specialized pneumatic/hand tools. Experience with carbon fiber or advanced composites is a strong plus.
- The Artisanal Mindset: Strong alignment with a craftsmanship-first philosophy. You understand how subtle surface variations affect a final glass-like paint finish.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, templates, and work instructions.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and comfortably work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.
