Pay: $2000 - $2140 weekly gross pay for traveler candidates ($40/hr - $42/hr for local candidates)
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Psychiatric and Behavioral Health to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role involves providing expert mental health nursing care across diverse clinical settings, including inpatient psychiatric units, outpatient clinics, and community-based programs. Duties
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments to evaluate mental health status, risk factors, and treatment needs for diverse patient populations.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.
- Administer medications, including psychotropic agents, and monitor for efficacy and adverse effects.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage acute behavioral episodes safely.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies to promote recovery.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinate with case management teams for discharge planning, community resource linkage, and follow-up care.
- Assist with triage assessments in urgent or emergency settings to prioritize patient needs effectively.
- Support infection control protocols and aseptic techniques during procedures such as suturing or medication administration.
- Participate in ongoing training related to trauma medicine, dementia care, memory care, or specialized treatments like botulinum toxin therapy when applicable.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice; multi-state licensure preferred for travel assignments.
- Proven experience working within behavioral health or psychiatric units; experience in acute care settings such as Level I or Level II trauma centers is advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; proficiency in medical documentation is essential.
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and mental health assessment tools.
- Critical care experience or ICU background is beneficial for managing complex cases involving acute pain management or trauma-related conditions.
- Strong understanding of infection control practices and aseptic techniques during clinical procedures.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams across various healthcare environments.
- Excellent communication skills with diverse patient populations; experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or geriatrics is a plus.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are desirable.
