Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accountant/Bookkeepers with nonprofit experience to support internal bookkeeping functions for multiple clients. This role is behind-the-scenes and ideal for someone who enjoys focused, transactional work in a supportive team environment. Candidates must be proficient in QuickBooks (Online and Desktop), Bill.com, and Excel. Local availability is REQUIRED for occasional in-person meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Client Accounting
- Manage the monthly accounting cycle for multiple nonprofit clients.
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned clients.
- Build trusted relationships with Executive Directors, CEOs, finance committees, and board members.
- Maintain accurate general ledgers and chart of accounts.
- Record journal entries and perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, investment, and loan accounts.
- Review transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Prepare board financial packages and executive summaries.
- Produce budget-to-actual reports and financial dashboards.
- Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting.
- Analyze financial results and identify trends.
Grant & Nonprofit Accounting
- Record grant revenue and expenditures.
- Monitor grant spending and compliance.
- Track restricted net assets and donor-restricted funds.
- Prepare functional expense allocations.
- Assist with grant reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and GAAP.
Audit & Compliance
- Prepare audit workpapers and supporting schedules.
- Assist with annual audits, financial reviews, and Form 990 preparation.
- Maintain documentation supporting internal controls.
- Ensure accounting records are complete and audit-ready.
Client Support
- Answer client accounting questions promptly.
- Participate in client meetings.
- Explain financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Assist clients with improving accounting processes and internal controls.
- Help implement accounting software and streamline workflows.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with Controllers, Fractional CFOs, and other team members.
- Mentor junior accounting staff as appropriate.
- Share knowledge and best practices.
- Assist with special projects.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5–7 years of accounting experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of nonprofit accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles.
- Experience with grant accounting and restricted funds.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Bill.com, and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Experience preparing audit schedules.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
