Lincoln Academy ~ High School Theater Technical Director (Part-time, Flexible)Founded in 1801, Lincoln Academy is an independent Town Academy deeply rooted in the mid-coast communities of Central Lincoln County. For 225 years, Lincoln Academy has served as an educational center for students from more than 15 towns in the region. In addition to local students, the academy enrolls international and domestic boarding students. We are searching for a skilled, hands-on and student-centered Technical Director to join our high-school theater program at The Poe Theater! If you love building worlds from the ground up, lighting the stage with creativity, and guiding enthusiastic teens through the magic of technical theater, this is your chance to make every production shine. This part-time role offers a balance of flexible building hours with firm commitments only during tech week and performances, and a competitive per-show stipend. Employment is subject to a background check, and all employees must hold or obtain authorization from the Maine Department of Education (CHRC) to work in a Maine school.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee set construction, painting, and scenic build for all productions Hang, focus, and run lighting; collaborate with the director on creative light plots Read basic design plans and turn the directors vision into reality on stage Manage supplies, tools, inventory, and the overall theater space, making things organized, safe, and ready Work flexible hours during the building phase and commit to required hours for dress rehearsals and all performance weekends (tech/dress weeks + Friday/Saturday shows, occasional evenings) Motivate and work directly with high school students (ages 1418) while collaborating closely with the director and the rest of the production teamWe Are Looking for: Strong working knowledge of basic electrical, carpentry, fabrics and drapery, set painting, and scheduling Experience in technical theater (high school, community, or professional level welcome) Ability to read basic designs and contribute creative ideas to lighting and scenery Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and make creative use of resources A positive, encouraging presence that inspires and motivates students Flexibility with some nights and weekends during production periods Reliable transportation and a true passion for theater!The Poe Theater is a 150-seat black-box theater with an exceptional lighting rig, all basic tools, and a good collection of rigging and platforms.
