Job Summary:
The Paraprofessional provides assistance to teachers, and other school personnel, in the delivery of quality education
and support services for students, in an array of classroom settings. Duties will vary according to the needs of the
student(s) from physical assistance and care, to behavior management and academic assistance.
Learning Resource Center (LRC) & Instructional Support
- Individual & Small Group Instruction: Work under the supervision of the Resource Teacher to deliver targeted
instruction and interventions in reading, writing, and mathematics based on individual student IEP goals.
- Academic Accommodations & Modifications: Assist in implementing classroom accommodations, modified
assignments, and specialized instructional strategies tailored to diverse learning needs.
- Behavioral & Self-Regulation Support: Implement positive behavior support plans, co-regulation strategies, and
restorative practices to support emotional regulation, focus, and peer interactions.
- Assistive & Educational Technology: Guide and assist students with specialized learning programs, assistive
technology, and computer-based instructional tools.
Daily Routines & Student Advocacy
Transitions & Scheduling: Support smooth transitions for students moving between the general education
classroom, the LRC/Resource Room, specials, and unstructured times.
- Personal & Functional Care: Provide compassionate, dignified assistance with personal care needs (e.g.,
toileting, handwashing, mobility, or eating support) as required by individual student plans.
- Active Supervision: Provide active visual and auditory supervision during recess, gym, lunch, and hall transitions
to maintain student safety and foster positive social development.
Classroom Management, Data Collection & Collaboration
- IEP Progress Data: Assist the resource teacher by observing student performance, tracking behavioral data, and
logging daily instructional progress toward IEP goals.
- Environment Maintenance: Assist in preparing learning materials, organizing sensory or quiet spaces, and
maintaining a clean, structured, and welcoming learning environment.
- Team Communication: Maintain continuous, professional communication with special education teachers and
general education staff to support consistency across student environments.
Qualifications & Education
1. Academic Credentials: 60 semester hours of college credit, an associate degree (preferred)
2. Foundational Knowledge: Demonstrated competency in basic reading, writing, and mathematics concepts, with
the ability to instruct elementary-level skills.
