Position Summary
The CAD Designer is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining accurate construction drawings and plan sets for residential homes within the company’s product portfolio. This position supports job specific drawings and plan revisions, ensuring that all drawings are accurate, buildable, and compliant with local building codes. As part of a regional production home builder, the CAD Designer collaborates closely with design, estimating, purchasing, and construction teams to produce high-quality plans that reflect company standards and builder efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise complete sets of construction drawings for site specific homes.
- Update drawings to reflect as-built conditions, field changes, and redline revisions.
- Coordinate with engineers, and internal departments to ensure accuracy and consistency across plans.
- Incorporate markups from estimating, construction, and purchasing to align drawings with material and cost standards.
- Ensure all drawings meet company drafting standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and organize CAD files, templates, and plan archives for version control and easy access.
- Communicate effectively with field teams to resolve drawing-related issues or clarifications.
- Assist in implementing drafting and document control improvements to streamline workflow.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Architecture, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of residential drafting experience preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (required); experience with Revit, Chief Architect, or SoftPlan a plus.
- Familiarity with residential construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all drawings.
- Ability to interpret and apply architectural and engineering design principles.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills across departments.
- Self-motivated with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
- Accuracy and clarity of plan sets issued to construction and permitting.
- Timeliness of plan revisions and updates.
- Reduction in field plan errors or clarification requests.
- Compliance with company drafting standards.
