General Description
The Safety Manager is a mid-level salaried role, primarily responsible to serve as the Safety Subject Matter expert, in the development and implementation of various Safety Program Initiatives. This position typically reports to the Corporate Safety Director, and may or may not have direct reports, depending on assigned geographic location.
Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities
Safety & Health Program and Policies: Assess compliance with established Safety & Health Program and Policies; serve as the Safety Subject Matter Expert; Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Project Management: Develop and Implement Action Plans, to launch various Safety Initiatives.

Risk Assessment and Hazard Control: In coordination with project supervision, identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop protocols to mitigate them

Site Inspections: Conduct frequent field safety inspections and facility audits to monitor compliance with established safety program requirements.

Training and Education: Plan, develop and conduct safety training sessions, to educate workers and site supervision on applicable safety requirements and procedures.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations and job sites comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations, such as OSHA 1910 and/or 1926 standards.

Accident Investigation: Support field leadership in the completion of thorough and complete accident investigations, to determine root causes, correction actions and implementation of preventative measures.

Emergency Preparedness: Develop and coordinate emergency plans, including drills and procedures for responding to fires, injuries, and severe weather.

Safety Culture: Foster a culture where safety is a priority, encouraging all workers to focus on safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment, for all stakeholders.

Reporting and Recordkeeping: Maintain various safety databases, conduct periodic analysis and prepare executive reports.

Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and consistent implementation of safety measures.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

Ability to drive a company vehicle;

Frequent ability to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone;
- Frequent ability to operate standard office equipment, using hand and arm dexterity;

Frequent ability to navigate through office environment, including periodic use of stairs and/or elevator, as needed;

Frequently utilize stairs and/or ladders, using 3 points of contact, to access various working/walking platforms.

Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.

Infrequent ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull, periodically at least 25 pounds.
- Occasionally work at heights, greater than 6’, utilizing provided fall protection equipment/personal protective equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Potential limited exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise; ability to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hardhat, fall protection and/or respirator, where applicable.

Periodically walk and/or stand, for short periods of time, on various terrain, including sand, gravel, pavement and dirt.

Must be able to communicate and understand both orally and written/typed English.

Routinely work a shift of 8 hours/per day, including occasional nights; limited overnight travel within North and South Carolina.
Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Safety Supervisor encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites).

Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide range of weather conditions.
