Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to lead clinical operations within a growing behavioral health clinic that is expanding into primary care services. This role is ideal for a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for integrated care. Dual certification as a PMHNP is highly preferred.
The CMO will oversee clinical strategy, ensure quality and compliance, and help build a collaborative model that bridges behavioral health and family practice to improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight for both behavioral health and primary care services
- Support the development and expansion of integrated care models within the clinic
- Deliver direct patient care as needed, including primary care and behavioral health services
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (psychiatry, therapy, nursing, case management) to ensure coordinated care
- Establish and monitor clinical protocols, policies, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards (state, federal, and payer requirements)
- Mentor and support clinical staff, fostering a culture of accountability and patient-centered care
- Assist with provider recruitment, onboarding, and performance management
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and operational efficiency
- Oversee prescribing practices, including controlled substances, in alignment with best practices
Qualifications
- Active New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license (FNP)
- Board certification required
- Dual certification as PMHNP strongly preferred
- DEA license and controlled substance registration (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum 5+ years of clinical experience, with leadership experience preferred
- Experience in behavioral health settings required
- Comfortable managing patients with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in integrated care or clinic start-up environments
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Background in underserved or community-based care
- Familiarity with EMR systems and clinical workflow development
