The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the full lifecycle of complex construction estimates, from initial bid review through final proposal submission. This role collaborates closely with internal teams, clients, specifying engineers, and vendors to develop accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates. The Senior Estimator plays a key role in driving business development efforts, ensuring consistency in estimating practices, and supporting organizational growth. This position reports to leadership within the estimating department.
Lead and manage estimates from inception to completion, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness
Analyze requests for proposals (RFPs), drawings, specifications, addenda, and related documentation to define scope and develop detailed cost estimates
Perform advanced quantity takeoffs and cost analyses for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work
Collaborate with estimators, project managers, construction managers, and business development teams to clarify scope, risks, and pricing strategies
Engage with clients, engineers, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve scope questions, RFIs, and pricing considerations
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project requirements and risks
Develop and present comprehensive bid packages and proposals for internal review and client submission
Lead bid leveling, subcontractor comparisons, and vendor negotiations
Maintain and continuously improve cost databases, including historical cost data and production rates
Coordinate with project management teams to validate estimates against actual project performance and refine future pricing models
Ensure all estimates align with current market conditions, material pricing, and labor trends
Maintain and manage a directory of qualified manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
Support contract development processes, including procurement, buy-out, and documentation (RFIs, AIA documents, and related exhibits)
Promote and uphold company safety standards and best practices throughout the estimating process
Serve as a mentor to junior estimators and contribute to team development and process improvements
Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and shifting priorities
Communicate effectively with senior leadership regarding bid strategy, risks, and opportunities
Perform other duties as assigned
Advanced experience in construction estimating, including complex and multi-trade projects
Strong knowledge of waterproofing, masonry, and concrete repair/restoration (preferred)
Deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices
Familiarity with procurement processes, contract award, buy-out procedures, and AIA contract documentation
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and code requirements accurately
High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software
