We are looking for a talented and skilled Senior Systems Administrator to join our team in San Diego, CA and help drive our technical vision forward.
**THIS IS AN ON-SITE POSITION IN SAN DIEGO, CA 92127.**
Important Note: This is a full-time, on-site with benefits role in San Diego,CA. We are only considering local candidates at this time. Relocation assistance is not available.

Competitive Salary Range: $110,000-$130,000 per year DOE
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Systems Administrators who will own the design, implementation, and reliability of an organization's core server and cloud infrastructure. The role will handle the most complex technical work in the operations team, mentor junior administrators, lead infrastructure projects, and serve as the senior escalation contact for critical system outages. It bridges individual technical contribution and team leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities

Architect, implement, and maintain our hybrid infrastructure (on-premises servers and Azure cloud) supporting business-critical SaaS applications

Lead infrastructure projects end-to-end: requirements gathering, design documentation, implementation, testing, and transition to operations

Serve as the primary escalation contact for complex incidents involving servers, storage, identity, and cloud components

Build and maintain automation using PowerShell and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible) to reduce manual overhead

Manage our identity environment: Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID, Group Policy, and conditional access policies

Maintain infrastructure documentation: architecture diagrams, runbooks, change history, and disaster recovery procedures

Lead DR planning and testing: validate RTO/RPO targets, test backup systems, and run periodic tabletop exercises

Participate in security reviews, vulnerability management, and risk assessments

Pitch in across IT as needed as this is a small team and everyone contributes

Other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Education:
-
5–10 years of progressive systems administration experience, with at least 3 to 4 years in a role with genuine technical ownership

Track record of leading or substantially contributing to infrastructure projects and not just executing tasks

Experience with disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience accepted
Core Technical Skills
-
Azure (primary cloud platform): Virtual Machines, Azure Backup, Azure Monitor, Entra ID / Azure AD Connect, conditional access — hands-on administration, not just console familiarity

On-premises infrastructure: Windows Server 2016–2022 administration; Linux (RHEL/CentOS or Ubuntu) a plus

Virtualization: VMware vSphere/vCenter or Hyper-V in a production environment

Identity: Active Directory forest management, Group Policy, PKI fundamentals

Automation: PowerShell scripting at a production level; Terraform or Ansible experience a strong plus

Monitoring: experience configuring and tuning at least one platform (Azure Monitor, Datadog, PRTG, or similar)
Technical Preferences
-
Microsoft certifications: AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) or AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect) — valued but not a gate
-
Enterprise storage experience (NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, or similar)
-
Exposure to security frameworks or compliance programs (SOC 2, HIPAA, NIST)

Experience in a SaaS or software product environment
