Job Summary
The Industrial Painter is responsible for preparing, masking, priming, and painting machined parts, fabricated components, tooling details, and machine assemblies according to customer requirements, engineering prints, and Oxbow Machine Products quality standards. This position requires attention to detail, proper surface preparation, safe handling of paints and solvents, and the ability to produce a clean, durable, professional finish on a variety of metal parts and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare machined parts, fabricated components, weldments, guards, details, and machine assemblies for painting.
- Clean, sand, scuff, deburr, wipe down, and otherwise prepare surfaces before primer or paint is applied.
- Mask off precision surfaces, threads, bearing areas, nameplates, machined features, and any areas that must remain paint-free.
- Mix and apply primers, paints, and coatings according to product instructions, customer specifications, and job requirements.
- Spray paint parts and assemblies using appropriate painting equipment and techniques.
- Read and understand prints, work instructions, and paint specifications to determine color, coating type, and finish requirements.
- Inspect painted parts for coverage, runs, thin spots, overspray, contamination, and overall finish quality.
- Touch up or rework painted parts as needed to meet quality expectations.
- Maintain proper inventory of paint, primer, reducers, solvents, masking materials, and related supplies.
- Keep the paint area, spray equipment, and related tools clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Follow all safety procedures related to painting, ventilation, PPE, chemical handling, and hazardous materials.
- Work with shop personnel, leaders, and supervisors to prioritize jobs and complete work on schedule.
- Assist with packaging or moving painted parts when needed to prevent damage to finished surfaces.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience painting metal parts, machined components, weldments, or industrial equipment is preferred.
- Ability to properly clean, prep, mask, prime, and paint parts with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read basic prints, job instructions, and paint requirements.
- Knowledge of spray painting techniques and how to avoid runs, dry spray, thin coverage, and overspray.
- Ability to recognize areas that should not be painted, including machined surfaces, threads, bores, and precision features.
- Comfortable working around paints, primers, solvents, and other chemicals while following safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing clean, professional-looking work.
- Ability to lift, move, or handle parts safely as required.
- Must be dependable, organized, and able to work in a shop/manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
- Basic knowledge of surface prep for steel, aluminum, and fabricated metal components.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus.
- Experience working in a machine shop, automation, tooling, or special machine builder environment is a plus.

Work Environment
This position is performed in a manufacturing/shop environment. The employee may work around machinery, paint fumes, solvents, dust, metal parts, forklifts, and overhead cranes. Proper PPE and safety procedures must be followed at all times.
