Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and refrigerated trailers on local, regional, or OTR routes.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment when necessary, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to meet delivery schedules while optimizing fuel consumption and route planning.
- Comply with all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards during all phases of transportation.
- Handle hazardous materials (Hazmat) and dangerous goods following strict hazardous materials regulations to ensure safety for yourself and others.
- Maintain accurate documentation for deliveries, pickups, load & unload activities, and delivery logs in accordance with company policies.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips to identify maintenance needs or safety issues; report any concerns promptly.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route progress, delays, or issues encountered during transit.
- Ensure truck loading and unloading are performed efficiently while adhering to safety protocols for manual handling and cargo security.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a strong understanding of truck loading/unloading procedures and logistics cargo handling.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements for Hazmat, tanker, or other specialized loads preferred.
- Experience operating various types of trucks including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or refrigerated trailers.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safety compliance standards.
- Ability to operate GPS navigation systems confidently for route planning across local, regional, or OTR routes.
- Skilled in manual transmission driving with experience in manual handling techniques for cargo management.
- Familiarity with forklift operation is a plus for loading/unloading freight safely.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and regulatory compliance in all aspects of driving and cargo handling.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with dispatchers and team members effectively.
