As a fee-for service dental provider, contractor will provide dental services for individuals in the custody of the Erie County Holding Center and/or Erie County Correctional Facility. Dental contractor performs examinations of individuals teeth and surrounding oral structures utilizing x-ray imaging, mouth mirrors, and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions. Treats dental disease, including soft and hard tissue pathology.
Duties include but are not limited to:
· Providing dental care and treatment consistent with the American Dental Association guidelines;
· Performs restoration of simple and multi-surface carious lesions with such materials as composite and amalgam;
· Performs single and multiple extractions of teeth;
· Treats hard and soft tissue pathology with appropriate medications, or other methods once a treatment plan is formulated;
· Takes digital radiographs and maintains written/digital records of each individual’s dental treatment;
· Advises individuals about appropriate dental health practices;
· Instructs and directs dental assistant in the performance of duties;
· Complies with all state and Federal confidentiality laws, to the extent applicable, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”);
· Comply with all policies and procedures of the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Provide dental care and treatment with incarcerated individuals in the custody of the Erie County Holding Center and/or Erie County Correctional Facility. Provides dental care and services that are necessary for adequate mastication and not limited to palliative pain relief, antibiotics, filling of sharp tooth, and extractions. Counsels patients on proper dental care and specialized dental needs.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARISTERISTCS: Thorough knowledge of modern principals and procedures of dentistry and specialized dental procedures; ability to provide professional dentistry services to disadvantaged and medically compromised patients; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients and staff; ability to instruct other in dental hygiene; good professional judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards
