Position: Mental Health Therapist

Position Summary
Express Care Clinic is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and clinically skilled Mental Health Therapist to join our behavioral health team.
The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive behavioral health assessments, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, crisis intervention, care coordination, discharge planning, and ongoing clinical support to clients experiencing mental health, substance use, behavioral, and co-occurring conditions.
This position works collaboratively with psychiatric providers, medical professionals, case managers, peer support specialists, behavioral health technicians, substance use professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Required Licensure
Applicant must possess a current and active Arizona behavioral health license appropriate to the services being provided.
Preferred – Independently Licensed
One of the following is preferred:
- LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor
- LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- LMFT – Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Associate-Level Clinicians May Be Considered
Express Care Clinic may also consider:
- LAC – Licensed Associate Counselor
- LMSW – Licensed Master Social Worker
- LAMFT – Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Associate-level clinicians must work within their authorized scope of practice and under appropriate clinical oversight and supervision as required by Arizona law and the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
Education Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Behavioral Health, or another qualifying clinical behavioral health field.
- Education must meet the requirements associated with the individual's Arizona professional license.
- Must maintain continuing education and professional development requirements associated with applicable licensure.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Assessment & Treatment
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments and clinical interviews.
- Evaluate mental health symptoms, substance use, trauma history, psychosocial needs, strengths, risks, and barriers to treatment.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on identified clinical needs.
- Establish measurable treatment goals and objectives.
- Review and update treatment plans based on client progress and clinical necessity.
- Provide individual psychotherapy and counseling.
- Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
- Provide family or couples counseling when clinically appropriate and within the therapist's scope of practice.
- Utilize evidence-based and evidence-informed therapeutic interventions.
- Provide trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented services.
- Assist clients with developing coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse-prevention strategies, and healthy behavioral patterns.
Mental Health & Co-Occurring Disorders
- Provide services to individuals experiencing conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, mood disorders, behavioral disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.
- Identify when clients may require psychiatric, medical, substance use, or higher levels of behavioral health care.
- Collaborate with psychiatric and medical providers regarding client treatment needs.
- Support integrated treatment of mental health and substance use conditions.
Crisis Intervention & Safety
- Conduct suicide, self-harm, and safety-risk assessments when clinically indicated.
- Develop safety plans when appropriate.
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization within professional scope of practice.
- Immediately communicate significant safety concerns to appropriate clinical or medical leadership.
- Follow clinic policies regarding emergencies, mandatory reporting, abuse, neglect, exploitation, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and other significant safety concerns.
Care Coordination
- Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Participate in treatment-team meetings, staffing, case consultations, and clinical reviews.
- Coordinate services with psychiatric providers, medical providers, case managers, peer support professionals, community agencies, and other treatment providers.
- Assist clients with accessing appropriate community resources.
- Coordinate referrals for psychiatric, medical, substance use, housing, social service, and community-based services.
- Communicate with referral sources and outside providers when appropriately authorized.
Discharge & Continuing Care
- Participate in discharge and transition planning.
- Identify appropriate continuing-care recommendations.
- Coordinate outpatient therapy, psychiatric services, substance use treatment, peer support, case management, community resources, and other wraparound services.
- Work to ensure continuity of care following discharge or transition from services.
Clinical Documentation
- Complete all required clinical documentation accurately and within established timelines.
- Complete assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, treatment-plan reviews, discharge summaries, safety plans, and other required clinical records.
- Ensure documentation accurately reflects the service provided and supports medical necessity.
- Maintain accurate client records within the organization's electronic medical record system.
- Participate in documentation reviews, utilization management, quality assurance, and compliance activities.
Compliance & Confidentiality
The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for maintaining compliance with applicable:
- Arizona behavioral health licensing requirements
- Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners requirements
- HIPAA requirements
- 42 CFR Part 2 requirements when applicable
- Client-rights requirements
- Mandatory reporting requirements
- Professional ethical standards
- Express Care Clinic policies and procedures
- Applicable payer and AHCCCS requirements
The therapist must maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

Additional Employment Requirements
- Maintain an active Arizona professional license in good standing.
- Maintain all required continuing education.
- Associate-level clinicians must participate in required clinical supervision.
- Immediately disclose any change, restriction, investigation, suspension, expiration, or disciplinary action involving professional licensure.
- Successfully complete applicable background and fingerprint-clearance requirements.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid certification when required by the program.
- Complete required orientation and annual training.
- Participate in staff meetings, clinical supervision, quality improvement, compliance training, and other required organizational activities.
