CFabrication is a professional steel fabrication shop specializing in structural and miscellaneous steel products. Our work includes stairs, guardrails, handrails, fences, gates, bollards, ladders, structural frames, platforms, and other custom steel assemblies.
We take pride in producing clean, high-quality work that meets project drawings and customer specifications. We are looking for a dependable Metal Grinder and Shop Finisher who can help prepare our fabricated products for primer, powder coating, galvanizing, and delivery.
Position Summary
The Metal Grinder / Shop Finisher is responsible for grinding welds, smoothing sharp edges, removing weld spatter, and cleaning fabricated steel assemblies. The ideal candidate understands what a properly finished steel product should look and feel like and can work efficiently without damaging the material or weakening welds.
Responsibilities
- Grind and blend welds to achieve a clean, smooth finish
- Smooth sharp corners, cut edges, burrs, and rough surfaces
- Remove weld spatter, slag, mill scale, and surface imperfections
- Use angle grinders, die grinders, flap discs, sanding discs, wire wheels, and other finishing tools
- Prepare fabricated steel for primer, paint, powder coating, or galvanizing
- Inspect completed work for missed welds, sharp edges, or visible defects
- Handle structural and miscellaneous steel assemblies safely
- Keep tools and the assigned work area clean and organized
- Follow shop drawings, instructions, and quality requirements
- Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment
- Assist with basic material handling and shop support when needed
Qualifications
- Previous metal grinding, welding-shop, or steel-fabrication experience is preferred
- Experience finishing carbon steel, galvanized steel, and miscellaneous metal products is a plus
- Ability to use grinders and other power tools safely and efficiently
- Ability to identify acceptable versus unacceptable surface finishes
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions
- Must pay close attention to detail
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a fabrication team
- Basic understanding of welds and fabricated steel assemblies is preferred
- Welding experience is helpful but not required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work around large steel assemblies
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in a fabrication-shop environment with noise, sparks, dust, and changing temperatures
- Ability to wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, face shields, respirators when required, and other necessary PPE
