Bestcare Assisted Living is seeking an Activities Coordinator to develop and lead activities for our Assisted Living home in Reisterstown, Maryland. This is a part-time (~16-20 hr/wk) job.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing activities and crafts 4 days per week (3 - 4 hours each day) that challenge and engage our mostly elderly clients in a cognitive and coordinated manner. The activities should be designed and executed to maximize both group and individual engagement. Individual activities can involve walks around the premises or 1:1 social engagement.
Specific Duties:
- Working hours would be 12:30PM - 4:30PM with flexibility to shift by an 30 mins either way. Weekdays are preferred but flexible as consistency is more important.
- Develop and publish a monthly newsletter and activities calendar to be posted in the common areas of the facility, and shared with family members.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute activities and crafts for a mix of individual and group engagement. The activities/crafts can be tailored as needed, and include any mix conducive to the personality of the activities coordinator.
- Plan and execute external activities and field trips using our passenger van.
- Incorporate seasonal elements into activities that include decorating the common areas of the facilities with crafts. Seasonal elements would include Winter, Valentines, Spring, July 4th, Fall, Thanksgiving, and major Religious holidays.
- Regularly update and renew activities programs to ensure ongoing interest and engagement with clients. Customize individual activities to ensure mental and physical engagement.
- Engage with community activities, local artists or musicians, churches, etc to ensure a regular mix of activities and entertainment for the residents.
- Maintain daily care notes in the resident charts regarding participation in activities.
- Reports directly to house manager and senior leaders on status of clients, ideas on improving the program, and general status of activities.
Requirements:
- Experience or exposure to senior activities coordination in a nursing home or assisted living facility
- Exhibits true compassion, patience, and caring for seniors and the disabled
- Creativity
- Current drivers license
- High school diploma or GED equivalent. Clear criminal background.
- Knowledge of local state and federal regulations pertaining to resident care and services
