Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Orientation and Mobility Independent Evaluator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in assessing and supporting individuals with visual impairments and disabilities, with a focus on promoting independence through specialized mobility training. As an Orientation and Mobility Independent Evaluator, you will conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine client needs, develop personalized mobility plans, and collaborate with educational and healthcare professionals to enhance client outcomes. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities by fostering greater independence and safety.
Duties
- Conduct detailed assessments of clients’ orientation and mobility skills, including patient evaluations and diagnostic testing.
- Assess the student's current orientation and mobility skills across educational and community environments, as appropriate.
- Prepare a detailed written evaluation report that includes: Present levels of performance, assessment findings, educational impact, recommendations for services, accommodations, supports, and goals, when appropriate
- Develop safety plans and crisis management strategies to ensure client safety during mobility activities.
- Collaborate with Rachel Bouvin Speech Services and legal counsel as needed regarding evaluation findings.
- Participate in preparation meetings with a special education attorney before due process or hearing proceedings, if required.
- Provide professional testimony regarding the evaluation and recommendations, if necessary.
Requirements
- Hold current certification as a Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) or possess equivalent credentials required by their state.
- Have experience conducting comprehensive educational O&M evaluations for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrate excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Be comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and legal professionals.
- Prior experience providing expert testimony or participating in due process proceedings is preferred, but not required.
Compensation
- 1099 Independent Contractor
- Compensation is competitive and will be determined based on experience and qualifications following the interview process.
