Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, instruct students in transfer and non-transfer level General Biology, Botany, Microbiology, and Zoology.Workload involves in-person teaching but may include various off-campus locations islandwide, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education classes using multiple teaching methodologies as assigned.Ensures all federal, state and university safety regulations and practices are promoted and followed to ensure a safe learning environmentWork with lab assistant to maintain the lab with adequate supplies and equipment, ensure compliance with biosafety regulations for a biological science laboratory, compliance with OSHA, HIOSH, EPA regulation for chemical importation and chemical waste disposal. Prepares and revises course outcomes and participates in curriculum planning and assessment. Prepares, revises, and assesses course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program and college levels.Plans, organizes and carries out instructional and non-instructional assignments, including program assessment and reviews.Maintains a minimum of one office hour, in person, per week for each course taught.Conducts academic advising of students and assists in campus-related student activities.Mentors and advises students.Develops and maintains an approved program of professional self-improvement activities. Participates in department, college and community service, including but not limited to committee and recruitment activities as appropriate. Assists with/participates in campus related activities and in-service training.Engages in public service and professional/scholarly activities related to the profession.Demonstrated commitment to community college mission.Maintains current certifications if applicable.Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Marine Biology, Molecular and/or Cell Biology, Zoology, Conservation Biology & Environmental Science, Ecology, Global Environmental Science, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Biochemical Sciences, or any Life Sciences. Desirable Qualification: Teaching experience at the community college and/or university level in the Biological Sciences.Experience in course, laboratory, and curriculum development.Demonstrated ability to teach field courses.Familiarity with tropical island terrestrial and aquatic flora and fauna.Experience with community college philosophy.Demonstrated ability to teach biological science labs.Experience with non-traditional teaching methods.Demonstrated ability to utilize advanced technology and distance education technology in teaching.Experience in course curriculum development.Familiarity with assessment techniques.Familiarity with biosafety regulations for biological science laboratories.Demonstrated ability to work with peers and students in a multi-cultural setting.Ability to communicate clearly.Experience leading or participating in student learning outcome assessment.Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.Application Submission: Click on the "Apply" button to complete an application and attach the following required documents (REDACT social security number and date of birth on all uploaded documents).Cover letter outlining how you meet minimum and desirable qualifications;Names and contact information of three (3) professional references;Resume.
