Essential Functions
The Executive Director is responsible for management of internal and external shelter operation of the 24-hour domestic violence/sexual assault services agency in Leavenworth County and surrounding area. The Alliance Against Family Violence (AAFV) operates a 24-hour hotline and shelter facility, sexual assault response, as well as rural and community outreach throughout the county area. Management of these programs include supervision of all employees in conjunction with other managers, working with an active Board of Directors, fiscal and grants oversight with Grant’s Manager/Health Coordinator and fundraising, as well as developing and maintaining community involvement with the organization. All services are survivor-centered and confidential, as required by state and federal laws. AAFV is accredited by the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, requiring state-level work. This is a highly responsible position that requires a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and instill trust in the organization’s programs and services. The Executive Director must function as the managing director of Alliance operations and serve as board approved liaison between the various departments, state entities, oversight groups, and Board, as well as orchestrating additional programming and or services necessary to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Administrative:
♦ Prepare, track, and monitor agency budgets in conjunction with Alliance managers
♦ Ensure that all staff are utilizing AAFV data base, spreadsheets & client files so that grants are completed and submitted timely by Grants Manager
♦ Meet with the Board of Directors, including preparing and presenting accurate and timely financial and programmatic reports, inclusive of fund-raising activities
♦ Monitor regulations regarding business requirements
♦ Manage donations activity and prepare / issue receipts to donors, for tax purposes; monthly donations activity to be reported to Board
♦ Manage volunteer programming for shelter clientele, delegating duties as needed
Personnel:
♦ Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers, both full-time and part-time
Public Relations and Community Organizing:
♦ Public speaking to civic and other groups
♦ Develop and assist in delivering educational, prevention and public awareness campaigns
♦ Work with other community organizations and stakeholders in the organization’s service area to create and support a coordinated community response to domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking in conjunction with the Shelter Manager
State Work:
♦ Participate on the Program Council of the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence by attending quarterly meetings and serving on committees as needed
♦ Close collaboration and coordination with other domestic violence and sexual assault programs in surrounding areas and across the state
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or extensive experience in the field of domestic violence or sexual assault services
- Possess a clear understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault issues, survivor-centered and empowerment-based services
- Comfort with a variety of computer applications relevant to office management and accounting including QuickBooks
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality, especially in a rural setting
- The ability to complete on-call shifts within shelter as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership skills to guide senior managers and handle internal and external conflicts
- Good communication, time management, problem solving skills, ability to work independently
- Excellent planning and implementation skills to meet Alliance objectives
- Prior advocacy experience with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
Physical Qualifications
- Ability to lift boxes weighing 20 lbs. with or without assistance
- Ability to climb and descend stairs
Salary Range
$60,000 to $75,000 dependent on experience and qualifications

- Some remote work is possible but onsite presence is routinely required
