Who We’re Looking For:
The Material Handler is a crucial team member responsible for the safe operation of forklifts to facilitate the movement of finished goods within the warehouse and yard. This role involves loading and unloading trucks and strategically placing materials for secure and organized storage. The Material Handler plays a key role in maintaining a complete understanding of product specifications and upholding quality standards.
What You’ll Be Doing:
· Maintain product inventory in the warehouse, ensuring organization and accessibility.
· Pull and prepare orders accurately and efficiently.
· Assist with preparing materials for packaging and order preparation.
· Safely operate forklifts to load, unload, and move material throughout the facility.
· Maintain housekeeping standards, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
· Manage incoming product in receiving bay as directed.
· Prioritize safety for yourself and drivers during deliveries.
· Safely stack and store materials.
· Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including the use of required PPE (personal protective equipment).
· Meet or exceed quality standards for finished goods inventory, including adherence to packaging and product label specifications.
· Read and comprehend special instructions for order requirements.
· Use measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers accurately.
· Complete ad hoc projects assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications and Competencies:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Proven experience in material handling and forklift operation, especially in a steel facility or similar environment.
· Proven ability to operate computer systems such as ERP software.
· Valid forklift operator's license or certification.
· Strong attention to safety and the ability to follow safety guidelines.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
· Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis; heavier lifting may occasionally be required with equipment assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with arms and hands for extended periods of time to perform tasks such as pallet building and material handling.
- Must possess sufficient visual acuity and peripheral vision to safely operate a forklift and perform detailed manual tasks.
- Must have adequate hearing ability to perceive forklift horns, alarms, and verbal instructions in a warehouse or yard environment.
- Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, including outdoor or unheated warehouse settings, and tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and noise.
