Overview
As a Radiologic Technologist, you will perform high-quality diagnostic imaging examinations while maintaining rigorous standards for patient identification, positioning, image quality, radiation safety, and compassionate care.
Working under Imaging Services leadership and the clinical direction of radiologists and physicians, you'll evaluate imaging orders, review pertinent clinical information, correctly identify patients, select appropriate technical factors, position patients accurately, and produce diagnostic-quality images for physician interpretation.
You'll also play an important role in maintaining a safe imaging environment through proper radiation protection, equipment quality control, infection prevention, and adherence to ALARA principles.
This position is particularly well suited for a Rad Tech who enjoys clinical variety and wants exposure to multiple areas of hospital-based radiology.
Responsibilities
As the Radiologic Technologist, you will:
- Perform diagnostic imaging examinations according to physician orders and established protocols
- Work across outpatient, inpatient, Emergency Department, and surgical environments
- Support diagnostic testing, therapeutic examinations, and moderate interventional procedures as appropriate
- Review physician orders for accuracy and relevant clinical information before beginning examinations
- Identify patients using two approved forms of identification
- Position patients accurately to obtain required projections and diagnostic-quality images
- Select appropriate kVp, mAs, and other technical exposure factors
- Post-process imaging data for physician and radiologist interpretation
- Provide clear explanations and patient education before and during imaging procedures
- Adapt imaging techniques to patients across the lifespan, from neonatal through geriatric populations
- Work efficiently and calmly during emergency situations
- Assist radiologists and physicians during procedures
- Complete required documentation and electronic exam records
- Navigate PACS and RIS systems as required
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Perform appropriate equipment warm-up procedures and modality-specific quality control
- Collaborate with service engineers when necessary to maintain equipment performance and image quality
- Participate in departmental quality assurance activities
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional imaging environment
- Support weekend, holiday, surgical, and call coverage when required
Radiation Safety & Quality
Patient and employee safety are central to this role.
The Radiologic Technologist will:
- Consistently apply ALARA principles to minimize unnecessary radiation exposure
- Use appropriate lead aprons, shields, protective barriers, and other radiation protection measures
- Properly collimate imaging fields to minimize patient exposure
- Follow equipment-specific safe operating procedures
- Complete modality-specific quality control procedures
- Participate in departmental Radiology Quality Assurance initiatives
- Follow applicable Ohio Department of Health radiation safety requirements
- Work collaboratively with medical physicists and other imaging professionals to maintain safe imaging practices
- Follow appropriate infection prevention procedures when exposed to blood, body fluids, or airborne pathogens
Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
Required:
- Current registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Appropriate Ohio Department of Health (ODH) license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Required Continuing Education credits necessary to maintain professional registration
Experience
- Previous Medical Imaging experience preferred
- Three years of previous Medical Imaging experience is preferred
- Demonstrated clinical and didactic competence required
