Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team in Columbus Ohio.. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to bridge communication gaps by translating spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering inclusivity and possess strong linguistic and communication skills to serve a variety of clients and settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and culturally appropriate interpretation between English and American Sign Language in various settings, including educational, medical, legal, or community events.
- Facilitate effective communication by translating spoken language into ASL and interpreting ASL into spoken English seamlessly.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while managing sensitive information during interpretation sessions.
- Collaborate with clients, organizations, and other interpreters to ensure clarity and understanding throughout interactions.
- Adapt interpretation style based on the context, audience, and specific communication needs.
- Stay current with developments in linguistics, ASL vocabulary, and interpretation best practices through ongoing training.
- Manage scheduling efficiently to meet client needs while maintaining high-quality service delivery.
Experience
- Certified preferred but will consider pre certified/
- 2 years documented professional experience either in person or virtual/
- Completion of Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or 4 years professional experience.
- Consider specialties such as tactile/pro-tactile (for deaf/blind) , Trilingual interpreters (ASL plus other languages). Legal certification (SC:L)
