Experienced Automotive Painter
Join a Well-Established, Independent Collision Repair Shop
We are a well-established, independent body shop with a strong reputation for quality workmanship and customer service. We are looking for an experienced Automotive Painter who takes pride in their craft, understands the refinishing process from start to finish, and consistently produces professional-level results.
This is a production environment where the painter works closely with our body technicians and detailers to deliver a quality repair. The right candidate understands how preparation, color, application, blending, and finish quality all work together to produce an OEM-quality repair.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional automotive refinishing, including basecoat application, blending, and clearcoat application.
- Properly tint and adjust basecoat to achieve accurate color match using RM refinishing system.
- Apply professional-level clearcoat with proper technique, film build, gloss, and finish.
- Block and apply primer as necessary to achieve a straight, properly prepared surface.
- Apply and reproduce various OEM-style chip guard and texture finishes accurately.
- Inspect bodywork prior to refinishing and identify imperfections, defects, sanding issues, bodywork concerns, or other conditions that could affect the final finish.
- Maintain a highly developed eye for detail and recognize issues before they become paint defects.
- Work efficiently and professionally with body technicians and detailers throughout the repair process.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including paint booth, mixing area, tools, spray equipment, and work area.
- Properly clean, maintain, and care for spray guns and other refinishing equipment.
- Use computerized refinishing and color-matching systems effectively.
- Stay current with refinishing technology, products, procedures, and updated computerized refinishing systems.
- Be willing and able to learn new or updated refinishing systems as products and technology evolve.
- Follow proper safety, material handling, and shop procedures.
- Communicate effectively with management and fellow technicians regarding repair requirements, color concerns, workflow, and quality issues.
- Maintain consistent productivity without sacrificing the quality of the finished repair.
What We're Looking For
- Experienced automotive painter with a strong understanding of modern collision repair refinishing.
- Demonstrated ability to produce consistent, professional-quality finishes.
- Strong knowledge of automotive refinishing processes, including preparation, priming, color matching, blending, basecoat, clearcoat, and texture reproduction.
- Experience with computerized refinishing/color-matching systems.
- Ability to tint and adjust colors rather than simply relying on a formula.
- Ability to identify defects in bodywork and recognize problems before they reach the paint stage.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with body technicians and detailers.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Dependability and punctuality are a must.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new refinishing products, technology, and systems.
- I-CAR certifications are preferred but not required.
- Must provide your own professional spray guns.
Shop Environment
We are an independent shop and are not a DRP shop. We take pride in our reputation and the quality of the repairs we put on the road. We are looking for a painter who shares that mindset—someone who cares about doing the job correctly, maintains their equipment and workspace, and understands that the quality of the final finish reflects directly on the technician and the shop.
