The Chief Budget and Strategy Officer for Academic Affairs is a key leadership position within the University, reporting directly to the University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. This role is responsible for ensuring the financial health and strategic alignment of the academic division, overseeing budgeting, resource allocation, and long-term financial and strategic planning. The individual in this role will serve as a strategic finance advisor to academic leadership, ensuring that financial decisions align with the institution’s academic mission and priorities.
Additionally, the Chief Budget and Strategy Officer will oversee and manage the Director of Academic Budget and Planning and the Senior Academic Budget and Finance Associate, providing guidance, setting performance expectations, and ensuring alignment with institutional financial strategies. The position will also work collaboratively with the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, along with their designees, towards overall University goals.
Required Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, higher education administration, or a related field. A CPA or equivalent financial certification is preferred.
2. A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in higher education, academic affairs, or nonprofit management.
3. Demonstrated expertise in budget development, financial modeling, and strategic planning.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
5. Experience collaborating with academic leadership, faculty, and administrative units.
6. Knowledge of compliance requirements in higher education finance, including grant and endowment management.
7. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
8. Understanding of enrollment trends, faculty workload modeling, and tuition revenue forecasting.
9. Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex academic environment with competing priorities.
10. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check.
