Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. This role is essential in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their well-being and promoting their independence. The ideal candidate will have experience in various caregiving settings, including group homes, assisted living, and home health care.
Duties
As a Direct Support Professional, you will be responsible for:
- Assisting individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Providing patient care and monitoring vital signs to ensure the health and safety of residents.
- Supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism and dementia, through compassionate interaction and engagement.
- Implementing care plans tailored to each individual's needs while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Assisting with medication administration as required and maintaining accurate records of patient care.
- Performing light cleaning duties to maintain a safe and hygienic living environment.
- Engaging in cooking and meal preparation to promote healthy eating habits among residents.
- Utilizing equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers when necessary.
- Observing patients for changes in behavior or condition and reporting any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Experience in caregiving roles such as home health aide, nursing home staff, or direct support professional is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR is essential; certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with memory care techniques and Alzheimer's care practices is beneficial.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as needed for patient transfers and mobility assistance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- A genuine passion for working with people with disabilities and a commitment to enhancing their quality of life.
