Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and attentive Patient Companion to provide one-on-one observation and support for patients in a rehabilitation setting. The Patient Companion plays an important role in promoting patient safety, comfort, and well-being by providing continuous supervision and reporting changes in patient condition to the healthcare team.
The ideal candidate demonstrates patience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients recovering from illness, injury, surgery, or other medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous observation and supervision of assigned patients.
- Ensure patient safety by monitoring for behaviors that may place the patient at risk of injury.
- Assist patients with non-clinical needs, such as repositioning, comfort measures, and companionship, as directed by nursing staff.
- Promptly report changes in patient behavior, mood, physical condition, or safety concerns to the nurse or supervisor.
- Maintain a calm, supportive, and respectful presence at all times.
- Help reduce patient anxiety through positive interaction and engagement.
- Follow facility policies regarding patient confidentiality, infection control, and safety procedures.
- Document observations and activities as required.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe patient environment.
- Support rehabilitation goals by encouraging patient participation in approved activities under staff direction.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout the assigned shift.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred
- Previous experience as a sitter, caregiver, patient companion, nursing assistant, home health aide, or rehabilitation aide.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience working with rehabilitation, behavioral health, geriatric, or special-needs populations.
