Duffy Boat Captain (Weekends) – Austin Rental Boats
Pay: $20.00/hour + tips
Expected Earnings: Captains historically earn an additional ~$36/hour in customer tips while on charter, resulting in strong overall earning potential. (Tips are not always guaranteed.)
Austin Rental Boats is looking for an outgoing, dependable, and safety-focused captain to operate our electric Duffy boat on Lake Austin. This is a unique opportunity to spend your weekends on the water while providing guests with an exceptional experience.
This position is ideal for someone who already has boating experience, enjoys interacting with people, and takes pride in delivering outstanding customer service.
Schedule
Peak Season (March–October)
- Friday: 6:00 PM – 9:00/10:00 PM (flexible on Fridays)
- Saturday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Sunday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
During the Thanksgiving–New Year’s Christmas Lights season, additional hours may be available depending on your availability.
Responsibilities
- Safely captain Duffy boat charters on Lake Austin
- Provide a fun, welcoming, and professional experience for every guest
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking
- Conduct a brief safety orientation before each charter
- Assist guests with Bluetooth audio, coolers, and other onboard needs
- Answer questions about Lake Austin and nearby attractions
- Dock the vessel safely at the conclusion of each trip
- Keep the boat clean, organized, and guest-ready throughout the day
- When there are no scheduled charters, remain on the clock performing miscellaneous duties including:
- Passing out brochures to tourists and restaurant patrons around the property
- Cleaning and preparing the boat
- Assisting with general operations as needed
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Valid Texas Boater Education Certificate
- Previous boating experience required
- Friendly, professional, and dependable
- Comfortable engaging with guests and providing excellent customer service
- Well-groomed and presentable appearance
- Knowledge of Lake Austin is a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in Texas heat for extended periods
- Ability to assist passengers boarding the vessel
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
