Medical Receptionist Job Description and Responsibilities
Purpose: To provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of
Communication between patients, medical staff and other members of the primary health care team. Promote CPCI (Comprehensive Primary Care
Initiative) and use good judgement, critical thinking skills and the ability to identify, resolve problems.
Dimensions: A Medical Receptionist works in the clinic setting, and is a member of the provider led interdisciplinary team. A Medical Receptionist confirms with
patient at check in and per telephone conversation their address, phone, email address, secondary phone contact and update the Electronic Health Record
with the most current information with every patient contact. Insure all inquiries are promptly, efficiently, securely, and courteously handled.

Responsibilities: To work within the guidelines and policies of the practice
Clock in and out by time clock at the arrival and end of your shift. This includes
Answer incoming calls to the clinic “Generations Family Medical this is______ how may I help you?” Transfer or assist the caller as appropriate
Take patient payments such as copays, coinsurance, or payment on a payment plan
Greet each and every patient by their first name as they check in
Check patients balance at every patient encounter, including by phone
Verify patient’s health coverage eligibility
Update demographic information at each patient encounter, even with
Request medical records if new patient
View patient’s electronic health record to ensure registration forms are signed
Make appointments according to the established guidelines
Make reminder calls for appointments to all Generations patients beginning two prior. If anyone cancels it is mandatory to reschedule that appointment
Call all no show appointments to reschedule daily schedule every patient a follow up visit including annual follow up
Check OHCA for upcoming or needed “Well Child/Well Woman/Man exams
Schedule 5 Outreach appointments per day and document patients name, DOB, appointment time and turn in daily
Check Oklahoma State Immunization Information System for immunizations due and schedule when appropriate
Maintain neatness and cleanliness of waiting area periodically throughout the day
Strives to maintain and improve employee relations and morale
Some lifting, stooping, bending, and sitting required
