Position Overview
The VP of Operations leads our Project Management, Procurement, Logistics, and Warehouse teams and is central to how we run day to day. You'll be responsible for the people, the systems, and the processes that keep all functions operating well, building the technology and workflows that let teams manage their own work, and stepping in on data, process, or performance issues before they become bigger problems. We need someone with strong project management instincts, real experience building systems (not just using them), and the judgment to build scalable processes as we grow.
What the job looks like day to day
You'll manage the people who run our projects and our warehouse. You’ll set the goals, hold people to them, and step in when something's off track. Your team executes; your job is making sure they can and do.
That said, you can't manage what you don't understand. You'll need to get into the weeds regularly; walk the floor, sit in on a project, dig into a process so you know what's happening before you decide how to fix it. This isn't a job where you sit above the work and read reports about it.
Our processes are still a work in progress, and that's the job
We're not a company with everything figured out and documented; we're actively building and improving how we operate as we grow. This role exists as much to fix and build our processes as it does to manage people. If you want a role where the SOPs are already written and your job is just to enforce them, this isn't it. If you want a role where you get to figure out what's broken, design something better, and roll it out, this is exactly that.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop team members
- Set KPIs and create accountability
- Handle hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the teams under you
- Identify gaps in how we currently operate and build the processes and SOPs to close them (this is ongoing, not a one-time project)
- Get hands-on when needed to understand a process well enough to improve it
- Own data accuracy for the Operations Team including project records, reporting, and workflow
- Build out the tools, SOPs, and documentation that let your team run smoothly
- Make sure projects land on time and on budget, and that risk gets flagged and managed before it becomes a problem
- Oversee warehouse operations for efficiency, accuracy, and safety, including inventory management and logistics
- Work cross-functionally with Sales and Finance to keep operations aligned with company goals
- Evaluate and implement technology and tools to support the team
- Stay on top of relevant licensing, compliance, and regulatory requirements for the business
- Communicate clearly with ownership and leadership on team performance, project status, and operational risk
What you'll need
- 7+ years managing operations, ideally in construction project management or warehouse/logistics
- Experience building or overhauling processes from scratch, not just following an existing playbook. You must be comfortable with ambiguity and figuring things out as you go.
- Hands-on NetSuite (or similar ERP) experience
- Comfort with project management tools and process/SOP development
- Sharp problem-solving instincts and the communication skills to influence people above and below you
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, or similar (Master's is a plus, not a requirement)
Nice to have
- PMP or similar certification
- Lean/Six Sigma background
- Experience in lighting, construction, or a related trade
- Comfort with AI and data/automation tools
