About Our Shop
Our shop is a unique space that blends a Full-Service retail shop with an educational Nonprofit organization, The Bike Works. The nonprofit offer in-house Do-It-Yourself Repair Stations where travelers and locals can learn to repair & maintain their bicycles themselves.
Our shop is located in Silver City, New Mexico at 6000' elevation on the Continental Divide. The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route and the Southern Tier across the U.S. cross in our town tucked at the edge of the 1.3 million acre Gila National Forest and 500,000+ acre Gila Wilderness. We are surrounded by trails, gravel roads, hot springs and sunny New Mexico skies. We are also the home of the 5 day UCI-level Tour of the Gila road race.
The size & hilliness of our town lends itself well to Electric Bikes and we have positioned ourselves as the largest E-Bike dealer in Southern New Mexico. We strive to be a welcoming shop. Our shop cat Athena is a celebrity!
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled & experienced Bicycle Repair Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cycling and possess strong mechanical knowledge to diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of bicycles. This role involves providing exceptional customer service, ensuring bikes are safe and functioning optimally, and supporting retail sales efforts. The Bicycle Repair Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the quality standards of our shop while delivering expert service to our customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive repairs and maintenance on bicycles, including brake repairs, suspension servicing, and general tune-ups
- Assemble new bicycles and prepare them for sale or rental
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently to complete repairs
- Conduct bicycle maintenance tasks such as wheel truing, gear adjustments, and drivetrain servicing
- Assist customers with bike repairs, maintenance advice, and product recommendations
- Manage retail sales transactions accurately using retail Point of Sale
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and efficiency
- Support inventory management by tracking parts and tools needed for repairs
- Provide excellent customer service by explaining repair processes and maintenance tips
Experience
- Service technician experience or mechanic experience required
- Knowledge of general bicycle maintenance required including assembly, E-Bike systems, brake repair, wheel truing, and hydraulic bleeding
- Familiarity with retail sales processes and use of a Point of Sale system preferred.
- Experience with cycling products or a background in bicycle maintenance is advantageous
- We have lift stands, but the ability to lift heavy bikes or parts safely during repairs or inventory handling is required.
- Strong customer service skills with an emphasis on technical support and sales support

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
