American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Cardiac unit position requiring Epic proficiency, telemetry interpretation skills, and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Work in a 10-bed Med/Surg Cardiac unit at a 101-bed hospital designated as a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center

Patient population includes high-acuity cardiac step-down, post-procedure cardiac, CHF, PD, secondary stroke, and general med/surg patients
-
Telemetry monitoring is required, including independent reading and interpretation of cardiac rhythm strips

Day shift RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5; night shift is 1:5, with CNA support available

12-hour evening shift (1845–0715), 36 hours per week
-
Weekend rotation required every third weekend
-
Holiday coverage required for one summer and one winter holiday (Christmas Eve/Day or New Year's Eve/Day)

Floating required to similar med/surg units on a rotational basis

No on-call responsibilities; low census may occur in 4-hour increments, primarily on nights

Epic EMR experience is required; Alaris and Pyxis also in use

Active WI or Compact RN license required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
-
Minimum 2 years of med/surg or cardiac nursing experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips

Experience with cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem), non-titrating Nitro, and non-titrating Dobutamine required
-
Pre/post cardiac cath experience (femoral and radial approaches) required

Chest tube experience required
-
Experience monitoring sheath sites required

At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration

First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with a minimum of 2 years of experience

Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible

Local candidates are accepted

Unit support includes a charge nurse (with patient assignment), 24/7 Hospitalist and Respiratory Therapy coverage, OT/PT/ST services, and an IV Team available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday day shifts only; phlebotomy is a shared responsibility between RNs and lab

Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts to learn unit workflow

Any color scrubs are acceptable, but must be professional in appearance
