Job Description - Teacher Assistant
INTRODUCTION:
The assistant will be group-assigned, under the immediate supervision of a group teacher. The position may be part time or full time, temporary or regular. The
Teacher Assistant is hired by and responsible to the Executive Director. Assignments during non-classroom time of the day may be flexible to meet program/center needs as determined by an executive staff member.
QUALIFICATIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROGRAM:
▪ Assist group teacher in planning, implementing and evaluating group and individual activities for children.
▪ Responsible of group in the temporary absence of regular teacher. May be in charge of a group of children under the direction of a group teacher.
▪ Maintain accurate attendance records, incident log and other required forms designated by the executive staff person.
▪ Maintain a safe, healthy, clean and visually attractive environment for children.
▪ Responsible for cleanliness, comfort and safety of all children.
▪ Aware of children’s health on a daily basis and conduct and document a daily health check on each child.
▪ Daily meal and naptime supervision.
▪ Assist the group teacher in monitoring and evaluating children’s progress on an ongoing basis.
▪ Discuss program and individual children’s needs with the group teacher.
▪ Must be familiar with all information in the parent handbook and follow through with all policies written therein.
▪ Must be familiar with and abide by all policies and procedures set forth in the personnel policies, program policies and procedures, procedures for mandated reporters and emergency procedures as well as OCFS regulations.
▪ Additional duties or projects designated by an executive staff person.
PARENTS
▪ maintain positive communications with parents including: ongoing daily rapport, preparing group activities, contributing to newsletter, planning parent conferences in conjunction with the group teacher.
PROFESSIONAL:
▪ Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings, typically held each quarter.
▪ Attend conferences, workshops and seminars for professional growth.
Responsible for 15 hours in the first 6 months of employment. The five-hour
Health and Safety training must be completed within the first 30 days of employment (this counted towards the 15 needed to be completed).
