Duties
- Schedule surgical procedures efficiently, coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and patients to confirm dates and prepare necessary documentation
- Review and verify patient medical records, ensuring accuracy and completeness in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) using systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or other EMR platforms to document care plans, procedures, and billing information
- Assist with pre-operative assessments by collecting medical history, reviewing documentation, and ensuring all required forms are completed accurately
- Facilitate communication between patients and clinical staff via phone or electronic messaging, providing clear instructions and answering inquiries with professionalism and empathy
- Support medical billing processes by coding procedures using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and Medicare guidelines for accurate reimbursement
- Maintain organized medical records, handle filing of reports, perform data entry tasks including 10-key typing, and ensure compliance with health information management standards
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for documentation review and management
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and medical billing procedures aligned with healthcare regulations like HIPAA
- Proven experience in medical administrative support within clinical or hospital settings; dental clinic experience is a plus
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication purposes
- Exceptional patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively via phone etiquette and front desk support duties
- Bilingual abilities are highly valued to serve diverse patient populations effectively
- Prior clinic or medical office experience with familiarity in scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and handling health insurance information
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks such as filing, documentation review, care plan coordination, and office management responsibilities
- Knowledge of health insurance policies including Medicare guidelines to assist with billing inquiries and insurance verification
