Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Operating Room (OR) procedures to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care, ensuring patient safety, and supporting surgical teams during a variety of procedures. Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for surgery by conducting thorough assessments, verifying medical histories, and ensuring all preoperative protocols are followed.
- Maintain sterile techniques and ensure aseptic conditions throughout surgical procedures to prevent infections.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during operations by passing instruments, managing equipment, and monitoring patient vitals continuously.
- Administer medications, including anesthesia agents and emergency drugs, adhering strictly to prescribed dosages and protocols.
- Monitor patient responses during surgery, promptly identifying and addressing any complications such as bleeding or adverse reactions.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately within electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), including intraoperative observations and post-operative instructions.
- Support post-operative recovery by assessing patients' condition, managing pain, and providing education on discharge care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiology, surgical assistants, and nursing staff to optimize patient outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, infection control standards, and national accreditation requirements such as NCQA standards.
- Participate in ongoing training related to Epic EMR systems, ICD coding, trauma medicine protocols, and other relevant clinical competencies.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Registered Nurse within an operating room environment or similar perioperative setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with sterile processing techniques, suturing skills, and aseptic procedures.
- Familiarity with advanced medical equipment used in surgical settings such as ventilators, surgical lasers, and cautery devices.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations across specialties including cardiothoracic surgery (CT), neurosurgery (PICU), orthopedics, or general surgery.
- Knowledge of critical care practices relevant to Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Background in handling complex cases involving ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, laboratory specimen collection/processing, and medication administration.
- Prior exposure to EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth is preferred.
- Strong understanding of anatomy knowledge, physiology principles related to surgical interventions, and infection control protocols.
- Additional experience in pain management, trauma medicine, hospice & palliative care, or behavioral health enhances candidacy.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required; neonatal resuscitation certification is advantageous.
